Margaret O'Brien was born on 16 January 1930, at St Kilda, Melbourne. She was the daughter of Irish parents, Thomas and Margaret O'Brien, and eldest sister of Kathleen and Thomas (all deceased). Margaret attended school at St Dominic's Primary School and Siena College, Camberwell.
She entered the Dominican Convent at Maitland, NSW on 25 March 1947, and was professed as Sr M Veronica on 6 December 1948.
Margaret trained as a primary teacher and later as a teacher of deaf children, teaching in Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, Canberra, Portsea and Newcastle. After these school years, Margaret became a Pastoral Worker and ministered at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne from 1988 - 2003.
She has more recently, in a voluntary capacity, supported families with young children, visited elderly parishioners in their homes and at Nazareth House, and worked for St Vincent de Paul Society.
Family members were very dear to Margaret, and she cared lovingly for her younger sister Kath and her brother Tom during their illnesses; and played a significant part in the lives of her niece Mary, nephews Phil and Paul and the grand and great nieces and nephews to whom she was lovingly known as "Auntie".
Margaret died peacefully but unexpectedly on 29 April 2010, the feast of St Catherine of Siena.
May she rest in peace.
