In the lead up to World Youth Day in Sydney, July 2008, we will be holding a Dominican Welcome to bring together our Dominican Youth from around the world.

Dominican Welcome will be held at Santa Sabina College, Strathfield, Sydney, and will have a jam packed program of guest speakers working for Justice, live performances, dynamic discussion groups, inter-faith, inter-cultural activities and reflective prayer and liturgy.

Group registrations and Individual registrations are open for World Youth Day at www.wyd2008.org. When you register, you need to indicate that you are a Dominican, so your accommodation will be organised with us.

Please email Coordinator     wyd@opeast.org.au
if you are interested in coming to our
       DOMINICAN WELCOME.
Let us know how many are in your group,
so we can provide accommodation for you
for both the World Youth Day Week
and also for the days of Dominican Welcome.

The Power of Two Feet

The theme of World Youth Day is

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,
and you will be my witnesses. (Acts 1:8)

In thinking about this theme, we came up with our own theme for Dominican Welcome Week, inspired by that great Dominican Woman, Catherine of Siena. She was one of the most socially active, publicly influential and theologically piercing women in the history of the Church. When everything in the world around her was in chaos, in the church, in the market place, in government, Catherine always stood up for the truth.

The Power of Two Feet refers to Catherine’s law of two feet – love of God and Love of Neighbour. Thomas Aquinas expresses this in terms of Contemplation and Action. We need to keep both of these elements in balance and if we don’t have the action with the contemplation then we are only walking on one foot and we limp.
